Is a Mongolian Yurt Right for You?

Is a Mongolian Yurt Right for You?

Over the last five years, Groovy Yurts has witnessed an incredible surge in interest and usage of yurts - specifically Mongolian gers (or traditional yurts). This trend was further amplified by the onset of the pandemic in 2020, and as we transition into a post-pandemic lockdown era, the enthusiasm for yurts shows no sign of slowing down. This growing interest reflects a positive shift in priorities and an appreciation for sustainable, minimalistic, and alternative living spaces or getaways. We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting movement.

Since 2003, we have been dedicated to making authentic Mongolian gers (yurts) available to the Western market. While we have introduced some North American modifications to meet regulations and consumer demands, we remain committed to preserving the authenticity and integrity of the traditional Mongolian ger

In a world where authenticity is hard to come by, Groovy Yurts takes pride in sourcing our yurts from caring and dedicated Mongolian manufacturers. Each yurt is lovingly handmade and painted, then imported from Mongolia to our home base in Alexandria, Ontario, Canada.
Although this can be a logistically challenging journey, it’s well worth it for the final product. Our yurts are not just beautiful structures; they are a testament to the craftsmanship and traditions of Mongolia. Made from high-quality and organic materials such as sheep's wool, pine, larch, canvas, and cotton blends, that are designed to withstand the test of time and harsh climates.

It’s important to note that we like to refer to these dwellings as living, breathing structures. While they are built to last, they do require love, care and maintenance (practical handy skills are a bonus!). With proper upkeep, your Groovy Yurt can provide you with years of enjoyment. If you’re new to yurt ownership, don’t worry, our team is here to guide you. We are here help and to ensure your dwelling remains in top condition.

Before purchasing your yurt, understanding the care needed is the key to enjoying its benefits. Additionally, it is strongly recommended to check in with your local municipality first to understand and adhere to the laws around installing a yurt. Check out our website, ask questions, and do your research.

If buying an authentic Mongolian yurt is for you, you have most definitely come to the right place! Owning a yurt is a unique and rewarding experience. Whether you’re looking for a cozy glamping retreat, a yoga studio, a guest accommodation, or a sustainable living space, a yurt may be perfect for you. With the right attention, your Mongolian ger can be a beautiful, dynamic and functional addition to your life.

We’re here to support you on yurt journey!
