The toono really is just one big, beautiful compression ring that each layer of tension converges into and radiates out of. It's where the earth meets the sky, and the spirits connect to the greater universe.
The Standard Toono:
The yurt comes from Mongolia with (8) windows.
Three of them are covered with basic clear vinyl
One is an opening for a basic stove pipe (simple sheet of metal).
The remaining 4 windows are left open for ventilation purposes. (meaning there are no inserts)
The toono is opened and closed with an insulated urgh (top flap) that is secured and operated with 4 outside ropes. Each yurt comes with an urgh.
Options and Add ons:
Chimney Flashing and Bracket:
This option includes the installation of the flashing and roof support (Chimney Bracket).
Groovy Yurt's standard chimney flashing sizes:
3-Wall & 3-Wall High
3" pellet chimney flashing
4-Wall:
4" pellet chimney flashing
5-Wall and larger
flashing for a 6" pipe with 1" insulation (8" opening)
There are four companies that comply with the Canadian standard of ULC-S629 for WETT certification with only 1” of insulation for a 6” pipe, bringing the outside diameter to 8”.
These companies are: EXCEL, Duratec, Ultimate One and SBI Olympia Ventis 2100. Please note that the 1” insulated chimney pipes (with the Canadian standard of ULC-S629) are usually not readily available from local hardware stores and will need to be purchased from a wood stove supplier.
If you do live in the USA, there is a wider range of options for pipes with outside diameter of 8” for wood stoves. The pipe needs to be listed as UL-103HT to be able to comply with code.

Along with many other tests the ULC S-629 Standard requires the chimney to withstand three 30 minute chimney fires at 2100°F (1150°C).

Mosquito Netting 1/2 Toono:
Living in a wooded area where mosquitos are a pesky nuisance? This option might be for you!
The mosquito netting is installed with Velcro; that way you can easily put it on and take it off or switch it with something else, depending on the season.
Half Acrylic - Toono Finish 1/2:
The front half of the toono is covered and sealed with acrylic and can be fitted with a chimney flashing for the passage of a stove pipe. The back half of the toono is open and can be covered with mosquito netting that is secured with Velcro.
Full Acrylic Toono 1/1:
The full acrylic toono has two window openings in the back of the yurt for ventilation and roof access. The other acrylic pieces are sealed to avoid water entry. We do our best to seal the windows, but they are not as sealed as the closed acrylic pieces. It is still recommended to cover the acrylic with the insulated top flap (urgh) to ensure water does not enter and to reduce the condensation and ice build up, especially in heavy wind and rain.
Clear vinyl urgh with or without chimney sleeve:
Optimal weather protection in cold weather, strong winds and heavy rain is still only achieved with the insulated top flap (urgh). The clear vinyl urgh is available with and without a chimney opening.
If you opt to heat your yurt with a wood stove, the stovepipe must be insulated to work with our sleeve. An 8” diameter pipe will fit a standard chimney sleeve and can be cut to fit. The maximum operating temperatures for the sleeve are between 500°F(260°C) and 1000°F(540°C).
The easiest way to construct a square substructure is to build a free-standing deck spaced 12" or 16" off-center. This will provide ample strength and rigidity for the yurt. The spacing and size of your beams, joists, and braces will directly affect ...
